Esperance and Nullarbor

The rare and remote beauty of untouched coastline makes this part of Western Australia a unique touring experience.

The beaches of Esperance are famed for their white sand and brilliant turquoise waters dotted with  a network of offshore islands. The Great Ocean Drive is a 38km circuit that takes in Australia's first wind farm, sheltered swimming at Twilight Cove, Pink Lake and coastal lookouts that are excellent for sightings of southern right whales.

Cape Le Grand National Park located 56km west of Esperance has the Whistling Rock as well as sheltered coves, swimming beaches, Thistle Cover, Hellfire Bay and Lucky Bay where you may even spot Kangaroo or two on the beach.

Archipelago of the Recherche is a group of some 105 granite islands and 1500 inlets. Boat tours are available from Esperance and it is possible to see fur seals, sea lions, dolphins and in season, southern right whales.

While Esperance is a large and well serviced centre, the Nullarbor is as remote as you can get. This 250,000-square-kilometre treeless limestone slab was part of a seabed and contains marine fossils, sinkhoes, caverns and caves.

Eucla, an outpost on the WA/SA border has a lonely jetty stretching out into startlingly blue waters,and in Eucla National Park you can wander among the rippling Delisser Sandhills.

The contrast of spectacular untouched coastline and the rugged remote beauty beyond to the north east make this an exciting destination.
