Heading North

Heading north of Perth are some of the most exciting, pristine, diverse and contrasting regions of Western Australia.  The Outback Coast and Mid-West have the shimmering blue waters of the Indian Ocean and ancient landforms of the interior.  Visit Geralton, Kalbarri National Park - one of the world's richest wildflower areas, Monkey Mia and Ningaloo Reef.  Inland are historical townships like Mount Magnet, Meekatharra and Mt Augustus National Park.

The Pilbara region has both the vivid red colour of the Hammerley Ranges inland and the mangroves, islands and coral reefs of the Pilbara coast. The discovery of iron-ore in the 1960's led to the establishment of towns like Tom Price and Newman. They now offer excellent facilities for travellers to the region. Karijini National Park has gorges, hidden pools, waterfalls and amazing wildflowers.  Visit Marble Bar, Australia's hottest town. Karratha and Port Headland are popular coastal stops.

The remote and rugged Kimberley region is one of the world's greatest wilderness areas covering more than 420 000 square kilometres.  Magnificent ranges, gorges and indigenous history make this a truly facsinating part of Australia.  Along the coast are white sandy beaches and turquoise waters, visit the 'Port of Pearls', Broome and enjoy a sunset camel ride along Cable Beach.  Other popular destinations are Geikie Gorge, Lake Argyle and the Wandjina Coast.
