McLaren Vale & Fleurieu Peninsula

Just a short distance from Adelaide, you can visit more than 60 wineries in McLaren Vale, sample delicious local produce like olives, almonds, fruit and cheese. The Fleurieu Peninsula is known for its, beaches, whale watching, penguins and scenic hinterland. Many of its towns were settled as early as 1837 and still retain early colonial architecture. Victor Harbor on Encounter Bay has a relaxed atmosphere, great pubs, a horse-drawn tram to Granite Island so you can visit the penguins and is a popular whale watching spot. Ride the Cockle Train along the edge of beach or take a self-guided winery tour of McLaren Vale or Langhorne Creek. Bleasdale's cellar door is open 7 days and has more than 150 years of winemaking history. Mt Compass is the gourmet food centre of the region with trout, berry, marron, pheasant and deer farms. Cape Jervis is the departure point for “Sealink” ferries (take your car), that travel the 16km to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. Deep Creek Conservation Park has walking tracks right along the edge of the coastline, over rolling hills and through stingy bark forests - camping is available. Delightful townships like Yankalilla and Normanville still retain the 'old country' flavour, in fact the slogan for Yankalilla is 'you will love what we haven't done to the place'. No matter which part of the area you choose to visit you will find a great choice of accommodation - from bush camping to luxury lodgings and everything in between.

The Fleurieu Peninsula is an adventure in itself when it comes to discovering wildlife, gourmet produce, markets, museums, wines, whales and so much more...you would never know you are only an hour from Adelaide!
