Welcome to Queensland
Sarina and Mackay
Discover the Serenity Coast and Sarina. Located about 37 kilometres south of Mackay, at the foothills of the Connors Range, Sarina Shire is home to the largest coal export facility in the southern hemisphere, Hay Point Coal Terminal. Sarina also offers a spectacular range of unspoilt beaches which provide sheltered swimming, sailing and fishing spots, with over 90 kms of coast line fronting the Coral Sea. Popular beaches include Sarina, Grasstree, Armstrong, Campwin, Salonika and Freshwater Point.
A visit to the Sarina Tourist Art and Craft Visitor Centre and the newly opened Historical Centre and Military Museum are a must. Sarina Beach is just a few minutes from the town centre and includes a surf life saving club, boat ramp, convenience store, picnic area and lookout with amazing views. The Sarina Sugar Shed is a 'must see' attraction - this working miniature sugar-processing mill and distillery is the only one of its kind in Australia! The Sarina area offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore a relatively unspoilt region which has retained much of its original charm. If it’s a relaxed, carefree environment you are searching for, take time out to discover Sarina!
The delightful town of Mackay is virtually surrounded by cane fields and has some classic 19th Century architecture, including the National Trust protected Customs House and the Commonwealth Bank. Combined with it’s many secluded and beautiful beaches it also has national parks with lots of wildlife, including kangaroos, wallabies and bush turkeys, all within easy reach.
It is also the Sugar Capital of Queensland. There are a number pioneer townships and sugar mills that you can tour in the historic farming and mining hinterland.
So many great reasons to make this fantastic region of Queensland your next holiday destination!
