Capricorn Coast

The Capricorn Coast is still relatively untouched by development. Off shore are the southern most islands of the Great Barrier Reef. Secluded beaches, bush land and river estuaries teeming with marine and birdlife are waiting to be explored. Bundaberg (on the south end of the CapricornCoast) is a popular base for many travellers to this region. Mon Repos Conservation Park is one of Australia’s most important turtle rookeries. The Discovery Coast just to the north has quaint seaside towns like Seventeen Seventy, and Agnes Waters, popular for fishing, mud crabbing, surfing beaches and great climate. Deepwater National Park is popular with four-wheel drive enthusiasts and. Gladstone, built on the edge of magnificent deep-water harbour has fantastic ocean views. Rockhampton has some of Queensland’s most magnificent heritage buildings and is the hub of Australia’s beef cattle industry. Visit Archer Park Steam Tram Museum, or just to the north on the Bruce Hwy is Rockhampton Heritage Village (open 7 days) and bringing history back to life. Visit one of the 13 beaches along Keppel Bay including Yeppoon, EmuPark and Keppel Sands.
