Welcome to Northern Territory

Tennant Creek

Located 510km north of Alice Springs Tennant Creek is one of Australia’s most isolated towns.  It is a popular spot for travellers to break there journey as they travel along the Stuart Highway.  It has a fascinating history of gold mining (gold being discovered around the early 1930’s) which caused the town to grow rapidly.   A visit to Battery Hill Regional Centre and Gold Stamp Battery provides a look at an underground mine and a mining museum. Other attractions include the Nyinkka Nyunyu Cultlural Centre – showcasing Aboriginal art, dance, bush tucker and the Aboriginals relationship with the land.  About 160km south of Tennant Creek are the Devils Marbles, an odd assortment of huge balancing granite boulders – they have particular spiritual importance to the Aborigines and are one of the Northern Territories top tourist attractions.
