The Old Timers Mine

A Multi Tourism Award Winning Business including winning - Best South Australian Tourist attraction 2011 at the SA tourism awards on 4th November!

Coober Pedy produces over 90% of the world's finest opal: this is your chance to see opal in its natural environment. You will marvel at natural seams of opal and fossils as you wander through the mine as well as gaining an insight into living underground by viewing two authentic underground homes. Our great gift shop has opal jewellery and souvenirs - you can even "noodle" the pit for your own opals.

The Old Timers Mine and Museum is one of Coober Pedy's premier tourist attractions offering a view into a historic 1916 opal mine. It was the winner of the 2008 Heritage and Cultural Tourism Award, so is an attraction not to be missed.
