Gemtree - Gateway to the Gemfields
Gemtree, 140km north east of Alice Springs, is located on the banks of the Gillen Creek on the Plenty Highway.
Set up camp in one of our spacious sites among the mulgas - you won't believe the magical starry night sky. Powered and non-powered sites available, campfires, neat and comfortable A/C cabins and clean amenities.
Weekend evening activities include campoven dinners and impromptu entertainment during the mid-winter season. There is also takeaway food and a mini grocery store, fuel, EFTPOS and payphone, as well as a gemroom with exquisite jewellery and local mineral specimens.
For a truly unique outback experience, take a tagalong fossicking tour to the gemfields at the foot of the beautiful Harts Ranges. Gem-fossicking tours are available from April through until October - in summer by arrangement. You may decide to have our resident gem cutter add the sparkle to your gems as a memento of your exciting outback experience..
Gemtree also has a fabulous nature trail, abundant bird life, ducks and fish to feed in the billabong (watering hole), bicycle hire and self guided short 4WD scenic tours to explore.
