Seppeltsfield Wines
In 1851 Joseph Seppelt, fleeing turmoil in his native Silesia purchased a beautiful property in the Barossa Valley, and in true Silesian fashion, named it after himself – Seppeltsfield. He decided to plant vines. Thus was born the village you see today. Over the years many activities and industries found a sympathetic home at Seppeltsfield. Our vision is to see as many of these (and more) revived.
“The most historic winery and greatest showpiece in the Barossa Valley” James Halliday 2006
Seppeltsfield now boasts the world’s most significant stock of consecutive vintage tawny ports in the world, dating back to 1878. Not just a collection, but a legacy so comprehensive that Portugal, Spain or France cannot lay claim to a lineage as impressive. In fact, the Centenary Collection is unique worldwide that can only be found in the Barossa Valley.
We believe our range to be the most comprehensive of any fortified “house” in the world, encompassing traditional European fortified styles- principally “port” and “sherry” styles- but with an Australian twist- the grapes we use for port style wines are traditionally the same as those which make the great Barossa dry reds- i.e. Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro (Mourvèdre), and as such are quite distinctively different from those made in Portugals’s wonderful Douro Valley.
With products ranging from sparkling to our award winning red, white and sparkling wines, there is a Seppelt wine for every occasion. Visit our cellar door - private tours and tastings, groups by appointment.
